Kasuyo Seijima
Hi there, in this time i'm going to post about a japanese
architect, Kasuyo Seijima, she is known for Minimalist and modern desings and
the application of light, glass, and metal for her works.
Seijima was born in october 29 in 1956 in Mito, Ibakari
prefecture, she went to the japan women’s university and then she proced to
complete her master’s degree in architecture in 1981.
The same year of her graduation, she started to work in the
architecture Toyo ito and associates, been an apprentice of him for 6 years,
and then in 1987, she becomes the founder of her own firm Kasuyo seijima and
associates.
She has been awarded with various prizes in her career, but
the most important was the Pritzker prize in 2010 being the second woman that
won it.
Her work can be identify by the use of glass, metal and
marble. She uses the light to desing the spaces, and always considering the exterior
as part of the proyect. Being this philosophy applicated from colective
residence to public buildings.
“We are not interested in doing a lot of Works, we are
interested in doing it with time”. - Kasuyo Seijima.


Her architecture is so subtle and simple, and yet so full of meaning.
